0

KUALA LUMPUR, Aug 8 (Bernama) -- In any Ramadan bazaar, there is always the

crowd favourite.

To Petaling Jaya residents, the Section 14 bazaar popiah needs no

introduction. In Kuala Lumpur, the Datuk Keramat Ramadan Bazaar ''Roti John'' has

been enjoying not just brisk business but is fast gaining popularity this

Ramadan.

There are at least four stalls selling the same snack at the bazaar, but

Roti John Titiwangsa, operated by Mohd Amri Osman, clearly stands out, judging

by the long line of customers at the stall.

''Roti John'', an omelette sandwich with minced meats and condiments spread on

a long bread is a popular hawker snack among Malaysians.

A visit by Bernama to the bazaar saw that although it was only 15 minutes to

the breaking of fast, there was still a long queue.

The customers waited patiently for their turn and did not seem to give up.

Many of them were regulars while some were new customers. They made a beeline to

the stall on recommendation via word of mouth.

One of the customers, Siti Habsah Amdan, 46, said the long wait was worth

it.

"This is only the second time I am buying personally, I never knew that I

have to wait so long, but I don''t mind at all. "Normally it is my husband who

does the buying. I will recommend that you add on cheese," she said.

A new customer, Mohd Hakimi Md Yaakob, who had been queuing for 30 minutes,

said that he had heard about the popularity of this particular roti john since

beginning of this Ramadan. "I always see a long queue of people at the stall. It

must be delicious," he said.

The item at Amri''s stall are sold at between RM3.80 to RM5. Amri, 38, who

has been selling roti john for 10 years, said he learnt to make the snack from a

friend and later worked on his own improved recipe, which he said was a secret.

There are four types of roti john on his menu, namely chicken, beef, tuna and

special.

"On normal days, I will operate at a site near the Datuk Keramat''s mosque.

During Ramadan, we will move here and start at 3pm when the crowd starts to

gather. "Busines has never been this good," he said to Bernama while busily

getting the orders done.
